This week has been quite eventful. Lots of warm weather, humidity, service and driving. We have been doing about everything that pertains to missionary work this week.
Our highlight for the week was our road trip. Well, it was a highlight for me. Not so much Elder Torres haha. To be honest this whole ordeal felt like a bit of a waste of time but nonetheless it still happened. I'll tell the story: Elder Torres has been in dire need of his UK driving license so we have already made trips to Ilford and Watford just so he could take the theory test. Once that bit of the process was over with and passed he needed to take the practical test (the driving portion). We looked all over the mission for the earliest available test date and found one for this past Saturday in Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk county. Just west of Ipswich. It's about an hour and a half drive from Basildon. We booked the test and made our way on Saturday to Bury for the test. It was a lovely sunny day and we encountered no problems on the way to the test. We arrived at the test centre and waited patiently. Eventually the instructor came out and Elder Torres was able to begin his test. (Side note* Someone taking the practical test is allowed one person to ride along with them so I was there for the whole thing.) After the show me tell me portion of the test, where you show them how you check if your tyres are good etc. and tell them how you would check the oil etc, we then got in the car and prepared for the driving portion. After the instructor explained all he would have to do Elder Torres was permitted to get moving. He proceeded to put the car into gear(it's an automatic) and back out of our parking stall. Now we were parked facing down a slight decline and the front wheels were touching a small curb which separated us from another car. When Elder Torres gave the car some gas it didn't move. He figured it needed a bit more gas to get up the slope so he gave it a bit more gas. Unfortunately the car then drove over the curb and hit the car on the other side. We got out and saw that our car had indeed hit the other. I then backed it away slowly so we could see if there was any damage. Thankfully fibreglass is flexible and nothing broke. To Elder Torres's dismay the test was an automatic fail (no pun intended) and the test was ended there. I think the toughest part was trying not to laugh when it happened after I saw there was no damage. We had a good chuckle about it on the hour and a half drive home. I couldn't help but make the joke that the gears in Portuguese are different than English lol. The best part was, we were able to stop by the Pereira family in Ipswich for a short surprise visit before we got lunch. They were happy to see me. That was probably our biggest adventure for the week. That's my story.
This next week is going to be pretty busy. We have MLC, Elder Torres's Birthday, Zone Meeting, the usual missionary work, and a ward get together Sunday afternoon after church. It should be a pretty good week this week. Thanks for all the love and support! Until next week!
