The General Epistle of Samuel (rough week ends well)

This week started off alright. It wasn't until Tuesday that things went downhill. In the space of two hours all of our investigators texted us saying they didn't want to meet anymore. After contacting them back and seeing them throughout the week we pretty much have lost all of them so by Wednesday we had no one to teach. We were a bit panicked so we went to work to find new people to teach. By Saturday we hadn't found anyone to teach. We were frustrated with what was happening and annoyed by all the people that were trying to dissuade us from our work (i.e. Chavs that have no idea what they are talking about and JW's that try to bash and just end by calling us morons as we walk away). We were not happy. Saturday night we were driving home when finally I asked my companion what we were doing wrong. We then evaluated everything that we were doing and looked for what we should fix. The Holy Ghost prompted us both to think about how often we were praying for help and if we were including the Lord in our work. Once we realized the problem we set a goal to make a change and work with the Lord's help on Sunday.

Sunday we attended church without any investigators. Once that was through we went home, had some lunch and then went to work. We were praying every hour, every time we got out of the car, and just any time we felt we should. In the period of a couple hours we were able to find three families to teach! One of which seems very solid. He is a man from India and the neighbour of one of the recently baptised families in the ward. We knocked on the door and asked if he had time to chat. He said he was fixing a shower head but that we could come talk with him while he was doing that. We agreed and followed him in. After a light conversation, and helping him fix his shower he agreed to hear a message from us. We started teaching about the plan of salvation because he had a lot of questions. Finally he asked us what he needed to do to be eligible to return to God. We read him a scripture from 3 Nephi when Jesus Christ says, "And no unclean thing can enter into his kingdom; therefore nothing entereth into his rest save it be those who have washed their garments in my blood, because of their faith, and the repentance of all their sins, and their faithfulness unto the end. Now this is the commandment: Repentall ye ends of the earth, and come unto me and be baptized in my name, that ye maybe sanctified by the reception of the Holy Ghost, that ye may stand spotless before me at the last day." He then says to us, "so what you're telling me is I need to be baptised?" We said yes and invited him to be baptised and he agreed. We were very grateful.

We learned some very important lessons this week about trusting in God and doing things His way. I am grateful for the Holy Ghost and it's constant companionship. Without it decisions and problem solving would be so much more difficult. Thank you all for your emails and your love. I appreciate it so much! I love you all and look forward to hearing from you all again next week!

Love,
Elder Dalton
