We started off with a usual P-day that came and went with little event. On Tuesday however we had an interesting day. My practical test was in a small town called Brentwood. We got there early and parked the car and waited to take the test. When we went back out to the car to take the test we had a parking ticket on the windscreen. That was splendid. Then we had a very unprofessional driving instructor (the man who did my test) come just short of literally yelling at us. He then failed me on the test. By what I gathered from talking to him, he doesn't like passing Americans because they "think they can drive". I'll be taking it again at a different testing centre. So once that ordeal was over and we paid the parking ticket (£35) we were having a pretty normal week until Thursday.
Thursday morning we had district meeting in Grays. One of the trainings that was given involved a missionary blowing up a few balloons as an object lesson. While he was blowing one up it popped in his face and a piece hit him in the eye and irritated it a bit. Afterwards we went on with our day. That evening literally when we walked into our flat for the night we got a call from the companion of the Elder who was hit in the eye saying they needed a ride to the hospital because the members in their ward wouldn't answer their phones (it's the world cup right now). So we picked our bags back up and headed out the door to take them to the hospital. We were able to take them to the hospital but we had to cross the river into another zone and it was a bit of a drive. We asked the Elder to make sure he had his insurance card and he said he had it. We got to the hospital and they said it would be about a four hour wait (Socialized Medical at it's best). We called our President to fill him in on the situation and he told us to preach the gospel, so I told him we were going to solicit miracles and we had a good laugh. About an hour into the wait the one eyed Elder told us he forgot his insurance card. So me being the only one in the group that could drive had to take another Missionary with me and drive all the way back to their flat to get the card and then come back. The nice part about that was it was 12 at night so no traffic and the toll bridge was free. Finally we made it back and the Pirate Elder had his eye patch and we were able to get on our way. He scratched his eyeball but he's alright now. The only concern now is scurvy. By the time we were able to get to our flat after dropping them off was 3 in the morning. We didn't wake up until about 10.30.
We spent the next couple of days trying to get our bodies back on schedule with the mission routine. The week was highlighted and made all worth it on Saturday. We had a baptism!!! We have been teaching Richard who has come to church off and on for 15 years and finally decided to get baptised so he can get sealed to his late wife who was a member. It was such a wonderful experience and he was so happy. He asked me to baptize him which was an honour. The guy is a character. It was pretty hot in the chapel and He asked me as we were walking to the kitchen if we had any beers in the fridge lol. Later we were about to start the service and he leans over to Elder Torres and I and asked if it was too late to back out now haha. He was baptised and it was such a wonderful experience. I'll send pictures.
That sums up the crazy week that we have had. This week is going to be difficult because the Bas Mobile will be going in to get some repairs done that my last companion so graciously left me. So we wont have our car for two weeks. Then my US license is no longer valid by the 27th so we wont be able to drive it anyway once we get it back. It's time to learn the bus system! Whoo.
Well I look forward to hearing from you all next week and hope you all have a great week! Love you all!
