The General Epistle of Samuel (still alive)‏

January 20, 2014

Well hello again everyone!

Another week has come and gone and the time is flying by! We had quite an eventful week since the last time I sent an e-mail. As I stated in my last epistle I did three hours of driving with an instructor (mission rule) in order to be allowed to drive a mission vehicle. We all came out unscathed and quite edified on traffic laws here in the United Kingdom. In reality it wasn't too strange to be driving on the wrong side of the road. I feel that it was due in part to everyone else was doing the same thing. Ooh a gospel lesson can be learned here. When everyone is doing something wrong it makes your wrong actions feel right. Something to think about. Anyway..... the driving was quite enjoyable and then the next day I had to drive with one of our zone leaders to Cambridge for our work over. It was fun to go back to some old stomping grounds. The rest of the week was full of finding people to teach (talking to everyone on the street) and finding less active members to set appointments with them (walking for miles and miles and miles....) it was quite a fulfilling week.

Thanks as well all of you for the letters and Emails this week. It is always wonderful to hear from you all back home. I am enjoying the spring like weather here. If the winters were like this every year this wouldn't be too bad of a place to live. Unfortunately it has been a warmer than usual winter. I guess it is a tender mercy of the Lord. This way we can be out doing his work more effectively.

Speaking of doing His work more effectively, one thing we have been doing this week is focusing our conversations on certain questions of the soul. One of which is "How can a belief in Jesus Christ help me?" A supporting scripture to this question or rather one that answeres this question is Alma 36:3 which reads,

"And now, O my son Helaman, behold, thou art in thy youth, and therefore, I beseech of thee that thou wilt hear my words and learn of me; for I do know that whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day."

This is such a wonderful scripture that shares how if we put our trust in God we will be able to withstand the difficulties of this life and the trials that we inevitably will face. The concluding promise is spectacular as well. I know that as we apply the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ and put our trust in God we can be supported in our trials and be lifted up at the last day. I hope you all have a wonderful week and I look forward to hearing from you all again!

Love,
Elder Dalton
